Creating Conclusions From First Impressions
Halo effect
- We jump into conclusions with the first impressions of something
- So much so that anything beyond that is information wasted
To derive information from many sources, make them independent of each other
- Unbiased sources get biased through being exposed initially to other sources
- We are likely to slightly modify our point of view if the context that it is being presented doesn’t abide by it.
Reading books
- The first books you read in a topic are going to become the foundation from which you evaluate from.
